Dorothy Day: A Model of Holiness in Action
Robert Ellsberg, editor of Dorothy Day’s letters and diaries, shared his personal recollections as a young man working alongside Dorothy Day in the Catholic Worker Movement. He saw firsthand Dorothy’s life as a holy woman committed to social justice within the Catholic tradition. The relationship gave rise to his lifelong study of sainthood, spirituality and social action. Author, publisher and social commentator, Ellsberg is a member of the Archdiocese of New York’s Historical Commission to advance Dorothy Day’s case for sainthood. Robert reflected upon her life and the contemporary meaning of Dorothy’s own childhood query: “Where were the saints to change the social order? Not just to minister to the slaves, but to do away with slavery.”
